I have recently come to terms with the fact that I am the sort of person who forgets umbrellas. On the bus, at parties, at work, at the drop of a hat.

The last time I was at Brooks, I bought two $6 umbrellas, thinking maybe I'd put Murphy's Law in action and stop losing umbrellas.

Well, yesterday in all that rain and wind, my umbrella blew inside-out six times, eventually breaking two of its spokes. As I dumped it in the trash before catching the T in Central Square, I thought, "Well, at least I have another one waiting for me at home."

I'd love to have a big umbrella, or a durable one, or a pretty one, or a cute one... but with my track record, it would amount to an expensive habit. $6 per rainy day I can afford; $30 I can't. oh well.

I used to be that way about hats. (Yes, that means I forgot hats at the drop of a hat.) I am very glad that I haven't lost a hat in a couple of years. I confess to worrying about it when I bought my last hat about a year ago, but it has served me very well!

Why not a raincoat? They're easier to remember, I find.

I bought a bright orange one. We are talking traffic cone orange. Not only have I not lost it, but when I loan it, the person I have loaned it to somehow always remembers to return it. That way I can find myself in a crowd.

I did leave my Keith Harring one at G&C's house once, though, so I suppose I am just as guilty as anyone.

you also left your black sweater at my house this past weekend... at least I think it's your back sweater (with a zipper)

Shit! I knew that had to be somewhere! I went crazy looking for it! It's part of my "uniform" at work, where the temperature changes, and where I am (inside or outside the building) changes a lot. I wore my fleece this week.

Are y'all free at all this weekend? email me!

i couldn't retain umbrellas to save my life.

then i spent $30 on an umbrella that couldn't fold up and was bulky and i figured if i spent this much money on it, i'd remember it.

well, i do remember it. it's been a few years now and i still own the same umbrella.
however, it is useless, since it blows inside out 90% of the time.

but! i haven't lost it, and that's what counts.
