This could also be a hybrid Sycamore Maple (that's what in Cambridge). You would need to see the leaves. If you found this tree on a curbside, it's most likely a hybrid - they are wonderful city trees. If you took this picture in a backyard around your home, it may well be a real Sycamore as they were quite popular from about 1920 to 1950 as backyard plantings :-) (Sorry for the long answer - for a while, I really wanted to major in Forestry & Biology)
This is a street tree (on Mem Drive near Harvard), but judging by Google Images I still think it's a sycamore. It is huge, so maybe it's old enough to predate the hybrid?
