I have a January birthday. As a kid, my dad always found something special to do with me and then I usually had a friend party. When I was really little, my parents ambitiously had a house full of preschoolers over for themed parties. One year it was pirates and we had a scavenger hunt; another year it was dinosaurs. One year I think we watched the Challenger blow up. :-/ NOT RECOMMENDED
Once my dad took me to a hotel with an indoor pool and we went swimming. Another time he had a pilot take us up on a private plane. One year I took 2 or 3 friends to Medieval Times. When I was 6 dad took me skiing. But he stopped all that when I was about 10.
Once I got older I just wanted to hang out with my friends, though.
A couple of years, mostly in middle school or high school, I remember doing something in the summer for a "half birthday" party with friends, since then there was no school, snow, standardized tests, weekend sports competitions, etc.
