What's this?
a thing painted with two different kinds of blue

My rule of thumb: If I don't know what it is, it's art.

an oddly painted oyster shell?

Yes...
It's trying to look like something... but what?

No, but you get points for being the *second* person who thought that. :P

D'oh. Shoulda read the other comments first.

Is the object necessarily succeeding at looking like the thing it is trying to look like?

It's doing pretty well. It's got the shape of the curve spot-on, and the colour match is decent. The only real discrepancy is the shape of the object.

The mystery has been solved -- see [livejournal.com profile] weegoddess's comment below if you want the answer.

Yes, that's true, but... what's the oyster shell masquerading as?

No! (And curse you for making me go to Facebook to see if the colors matched! I was going to stop wasting time on the Intarwebz and actually get something done today.) :P

I agree with J's guess. It's the logo from a London Oyster card:

YES!! You got it.

I feel like after all the above guesses, you ought to win something, but I don't have a prize prepared. Have anything in mind?

Now that it's been relieved, it's obvious. :)

If Weegoddess still uses an Oyster card, you could put some money into It (if it's possible to top it up online).

::smiles:: Oh yeah, we know about topping up the card from afar. We've done it repleatedly. ;-)

Hmmmm. I know that J would suggest something food-related. I'll have to ask him.

Speaking of which, I was still planning to try my hand at making dolmas, if the jar of grape leaves I bought are still any good. ISTR that you had some advice on cooking the grapeleaves. What was it again? and any advice on making (veggie) dolmas would also be helpful.

Yes, veggie dolmas. No lamb for us except to pet and feed.

Without looking at the other answers
