What's this?
a thing painted with two different kinds of blue

My rule of thumb: If I don't know what it is, it's art.

an oddly painted oyster shell?

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes...
It's trying to look like something... but what?

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but you get points for being the *second* person who thought that. :P

[identity profile] audesapere.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
D'oh. Shoulda read the other comments first.

Is the object necessarily succeeding at looking like the thing it is trying to look like?

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's doing pretty well. It's got the shape of the curve spot-on, and the colour match is decent. The only real discrepancy is the shape of the object.

[identity profile] audesapere.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
this is going to bother me all day.

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
:D
Sorry... kind of.

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The mystery has been solved -- see [livejournal.com profile] weegoddess's comment below if you want the answer.

[identity profile] audesapere.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks, that's way more interesting than these transcriptions.

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Pleased to be of assistance!

[identity profile] audesapere.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)

A Smurf post elephant-stomp.

[identity profile] chanaleh.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking "Smurf spoor".

A painted oyster shell?

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's true, but... what's the oyster shell masquerading as?

Facebook!

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
No! (And curse you for making me go to Facebook to see if the colors matched! I was going to stop wasting time on the Intarwebz and actually get something done today.) :P

[identity profile] tamidon.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
is it a flag related tourist tchotke?

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
No, although it does have something to do with travel.

[identity profile] pierceheart.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Direct TV logo?

[identity profile] weegoddess.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with J's guess. It's the logo from a London Oyster card:

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
YES!! You got it.

I feel like after all the above guesses, you ought to win something, but I don't have a prize prepared. Have anything in mind?

[identity profile] deguspice.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that it's been relieved, it's obvious. :)

If Weegoddess still uses an Oyster card, you could put some money into It (if it's possible to top it up online).

[identity profile] weegoddess.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
::smiles:: Oh yeah, we know about topping up the card from afar. We've done it repleatedly. ;-)

[identity profile] weegoddess.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm. I know that J would suggest something food-related. I'll have to ask him.

Speaking of which, I was still planning to try my hand at making dolmas, if the jar of grape leaves I bought are still any good. ISTR that you had some advice on cooking the grapeleaves. What was it again? and any advice on making (veggie) dolmas would also be helpful.

Yes, veggie dolmas. No lamb for us except to pet and feed.

Without looking at the other answers

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2012-03-13 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a painted shell...
