On Saturday we were in Deerfield visiting Ann-Marie when the show started falling. We had to make a quick decision whether to stick around, or to get on the road and go home while we still could. Since Kyle didn't have his ski gear, we decided on the latter.

We were so tired when we got home that we went to bed without so much as eating supper. I woke up at 11:30 and since I was still dressed, I figured I might as well get a head start on the shoveling. Did a nice job with the foot-plus that was on the front walk, and made a good start on the driveway, then took a hot shower and went back to bed.

Woke up again at 6 and couldn't stay in bed (usually I have trouble getting out of bed, but I guess I was excited about the blizzard). Went to look out the front door: beautifully sculpted drifties on the porch -- and no sign at all that the walk had been shoveled!

When Kyle went out to shovel around 10am, we estimated that it was about 20 inches deep, though it was hard to tell with all the drifting. Some of the drifts were up to his hips!

Today I am very grateful for insulated windows, gas heat, thermal underwear, snowboots, chicken soup, red zinger tea, flannel sheets, Neal Stephenson, Will Shortz, and most of all, my wonderful warm Kyle.

So go to Sunapee on Saturday!

I find it ironic that I go to Sunapee in the summer for the jurried craft fair, and everyone else I know goes to Sunapee in the winter to ski!
