A coworker of my dad's went to Ghana for a sabbatical, and brought back some batik fabric scraps for me. Apparently fabric stores are also tailors, and whatever small scraps are left-over from making clothing go into a bin and customers can just take what they want. You can't see much of the African fabrics in this picture, but they inspired the painting I did for the flaps of the bags.
