Jun. 18th, 2010 06:30 pmMy grandmother was a practical woman with enduring aesthetic taste. If her drinking glasses broke, she replaced them with the closest match she could conveniently find. She did this at least six times, without ever getting rid of the intact original glasses. (The first six glasses in this row are water glasses; the other three are orange juice glasses.) There was a seventh water-glass type which I found in the cupboard after taking this picture; it was similar in size and style to the fourth glass from the left, but the sides were slightly convex. I believe that the fifth glass in this picture is from the original set, but I'm not certain. I'm pretty sure the orange-juice glass with the etched pattern is the oldest. We boxed up all the glasses and gave them to her best friend, who lives two blocks away.
