Yes, they are mountain laurel.. Kalmia latifolia - but not the native variety which is a rosy pink. They grew in the woods at Nana and Papa's country house in Yorktown Heights, NY. Your father probably remembers them. We used to bring armfuls of them home to Brooklyn in the spring. The white variety and an assortment of intense rose and variegated rose-and-white petals are available to buy in nurseries. Grandma
