Yes, they're Mountain Laurel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalmia_latifolia)
Did you take this up here? My parent's house in N.J. was surrounded by them, but I don't see them that much around here.

I took this in Connecticut, at Gillette Castle. But I have some in my backyard too.

mountain laurel, yes.
My favorite trail in north georgia
passes through thicket after thicket of mountain laurel. It doesn't bloom for all that long, but if you plan a hike during season, it's stunning. :-)
