I am not a Smithie, sadly. They wouldn't let me in since I was a boy.

I actually don't know Circus Smirkus. A quick Googling reveals that they are pretty far north---I live on the edge of VT and MA and so I'm actually closer to Boston than them---which may explain why...

Smirkus actually tours to the Boston area (and to southern VT and western MA), and they used to perform in Putney but I guess their sponsor there fell through at some point. Anyway, here's their schedule:

and if you have any interest in circus at all, I highly recommend them. The performers may be kids, but their show holds together better and has more soul than most grown-up circuses.

I once took a class at Amherst: a plays-as-literature class with Connie Congdon. I got official permission to eat lunch at Valentine on those days, and I remember being overwhelmed by how many more options there were to choose from there.

So basically you took a class with the absolute best faculty member ever in Amherst. And you got the food. It's like, you just picked the best things about Amherst and got those but did you have to deal with the other stuff. That is awesome. You like lived the best of both worlds.
