It does not. I believe that's the main reason I found it so funny. Although... I still don't understand why it's funny.

It may be very telling that one of my favorite jokes goes like this:
"Q: Why do ducks have webbed feet? ...A: To put out forest fires." ...you let the dumb sit with your audience for a few minutes, and then later in the conversation you hit 'em with the second half:
"Q: Why do elephants climb trees?" [your audience goes, 'huh?'...]
"A: To get away from flaming ducks!"

The original shibboleth was the use of the word "שיבולת" --- Ephramites didn't differentiate between the Hebrew letters shin and sin and would pronounce the initial consonant as "s" instead of "sh".

But today no one pronounces tav as "th"; it lives on only in older transliterations such as "shibboleth", which today would be pronounced "shibbolet." (See also English "sabbath" versus Hebrew "shabbat" in which the same two transformations have occurred.)
