The thing that surprised me to learn when I started pressing the seams on this quilt is that they alternate directions, clockwise in some intersections and counterclockwise in others. It feels to me like somehow analogous to contra dance choreography, but I can't put my finger on how.

I've often found the insides of things to be as interesting or more interesting as the outside. It tells the story of how a thing came to be, rather than the story of what the thing is.

I agree -- it's like seeing the behind the scenes footage from the making of a movie. But while the front may be less interesting, it's much prettier -- like in the movie, that's where the illusion does its thing.
