7:49 a.m. on the bedside clock
After morning milk at 6:20 (not pictured because dark), K gets up to play with the Bear, who is “all done seeping.”

I’m dressed, looking in the bedroom mirror.

purple penguin pajamas and orange striped shoes
The Bear likes to try on shoes from her collection of too-big shoes.

looking at the fish shower curtain
She visits Daddy in the shower.

8:13 on my cell phone
I retrieve my phone from the charging station.

going out the door
K leaves for work.

shopping lists and knapsack puzzle pieces
I write up drafts of shopping lists and try the “knapsack problem” puzzle that K sent me last night.

cheesy bread and watter bottle
We each have melted cheese on toast for breakfast.

tea and pear
We share a pear, and I have tea. It’s only a slightly-smaller-than-average pear.

out the window
Bear observes, “It’s snowing outside!” And she’s right.

plaid and plaid
She chooses her clothes -- a “Daddy shirt” (plaid) and plaid pajama pants. She plays with her menorah set which I failed to put in storage promptly.

dirty dishes
I do some clean-up.

clean dishes

time check 9:40
We’re meeting up with friends in twenty minutes.

purple boots
Boots for both of us.

D and E
We find our friends and proceed to the library.

Bear playing with the little toys
Our library has a wonderful little children’s shop in the back -- toys, clothes, books, gear; all merchandise is donated and almost all staff are volunteer; the proceeds give us programming like singalongs with real musicians every week.

fridge letters
I buy some magnetic letters and numbers, and also a few books.

apple beet pouch
The girls each have a snack.

on the little bench
Then they read together,

running and ‘hiding’
and chase each other in circles. (The Bear was trying to “hide” in this picture.)

the Zaxaroplasteion
After the library, we stop at the Zaxaroplasteion for some spanakopita for lunch. E also recommends a gooey custard-y thing with phyllo on top, which I buy and it proves to be fantastic.

at the dining table
We go back to our house and eat together. Well, the Bear eats more than her share of red and yellow peppers, and D is too busy playing with Bear’s toys to eat much of anything. But E and I enjoy the spanakopita.

playing
The girls play together a bit,

E going out the door
and then D and E leave for nap time.

mess in the living room
The Bear goes to sleep, and I take in the relative mess and decide that for my sanity (or insanity?) I must tidy it up.

phone
First I activate the nap feature on our phone. (Thank goodness for geek husbands!)

tired around the eyes
Bathroom break. I’ve had a headache on and off all day, and you can see it around my eyes.

wash to dry
I put the wash in the dryer.

tidy living room
Then I straighten the living room,

new huge cup
and make another cup of tea.

mauve paisley fabric
The item I needed from the wash is soon sufficiently dry.

sewing room radio
I settle into the sewing room. This is always the time of day that I breathe a sigh of relief -- an hour or two alone with NPR.

two doll quilts and a wall quilt
I’m working on three projects at once -- no, four! -- but they’re all pretty small.

sewing the binding onto a quilt
The paisley fabric becomes the binding for this quilt.

blur of energy
Then the Bear wakes up from her nap and has grand plans for her stuffed animals.

cheerios?
Puppy and Kitty watch her eat her snack at her “ditty table” (little table).

snowbanks and cars
Then, because my head is feeling better and I think we’ll both go crazy if we stay home, we head out again.

3:58 p.m
We catch a bus...

picking out the right green fabric
...to the fabric store, where we buy green fabric for the backing of her birthday present. She chose the fabrics, I made up the manic pattern.

more fabric
While I buy the green, she explores the store, pointing out other colors of fabric and bringing me buttons to admire.

looking at the industrial-sized washing machines
Since she’s been obsessed with the Corduroy books, one of which takes place in a laundromat, we have a look at some big washing machines and dryers.

shopping at whole foods
At Bear’s request, we buy blueberries and cheese crackers,

the veggie chips are sticking out the top of my bag
and also enough other groceries that my bag won’t close. Oops.

snow is still falling
It’s getting dark when we get back outside.

77 bus to Harvard Station
After a chilly wait, we get on a bus.

5:23 p.m.

putting food pouches in the cupboard
The Bear helps me unpack groceries and put them away.

changing table
K gets home from work and, in keeping with tradition, immediately changes a diaper.

touching the ceiling
They play together,

putting animals in her ‘boat’
and Bear shows Daddy the “boat” that she made out of crib sheets.

opening a package
We open some early birthday presents that my grandparents sent -- lots of books, many of which are already favorites (but it’s okay because we’ll just give the duplicates to our friends).

dishes in the sink
I forgot to photograph dinner. You’re not missing much: we ate Indian food that was left over from the previous night.

two glasses and a water bottle on the table
I clean up while K changes Bear into pajamas.

upside down nursing
We do bedtime milk.

tote bag full of hand-sewing projects
I pack a bag of sewing projects for tonight.

happier mirror reflection
Feeling much better, thank you.

a hole in a chain link fence
The hole in this fence looks kind of sketchy. I’ve seen it from the bike path side hundreds of times when I used to commute along here, but this is the first time I’ve ever walked through it. Not long ago, the city repaired the hole, but there was such a protest among commuters who use it to access the bikeway that it is now sanctioned. I was not at all surprised to find that it had been cleared of snow.

at Del Penthouse
At my destination, people are chatting and noshing but the official festivities have not started yet. I sit on the floor and start sewing. (I put the finishing touches on two quilts tonight.)

S and two friends
It’s a storytelling evening, in the style of The Moth but of course much lower-key. This is our hostess. About ten people told stories, but I didn’t take photos because I didn’t want to make them uncomfortable.

narrow walkway between two piles of snow
I am the first to leave the party, a little before 11. I was going to take a bus, but my app shows none nearby, so I walk home.

broken jar with coins spilled out
On the way I see this. I don’t touch it; someone else needs the coins more than I, and besides, it’s so beautiful just like this.

kitty in a store window
I pass the pet grooming shop where Tigger, the official greeter, sits in the window.

11:25 on the kitchen clock
It’s long past my usual bedtime when I get home, and even K has gone to bed. I take a quick shower and crawl into bed myself.

I put this all together and went to post it on ditl.livejournal.com, only to discover that I'd looked at the wrong column for the date and documented the wrong day. Oh well, I didn't do it for them, I did it for my future self and for the Bear, so here it is.

Love the line "we stop at the Zaxaroplasteion for some spanakopita" which oughta be a song lyric. I would need a week to do all the stuff you do in a day. My favorite picture was the one of the cat in the window. My second favorite was the one of the stuffed animals watching Bear eat her snack.

Ha! Yes, I love that we have a Zaxaroplasteion in our neighborhood, and take any opportunity to say its name aloud.

What a great day, and OMG -- when did she get so big???

And, upon further reflection, has it really been almost another year?!

"It’s only a slightly-smaller-than-average pear." LOL!

Also, you have terrific taste in tea mugs.

Thank you for a glimpse into your day!

Thank you! There's a bit of a story behind the mugs: I have a 24-ounce mug which I found I was hand-washing several times a day so I could use it to the exclusion of all other mugs. So last summer I asked an amateur potter of my acquaintance to make me four similarly huge mugs. She did, except that it's hard to predict the volume of a vessel from the point of view of throwing it on the wheel, so the new mugs range from 25 to 30 ounces. I use them all the time -- I figure if I'm going to the trouble of making tea, I want to make a LOT of tea. :)

Awesome DITL, thank you for sharing!

Weird question time, does your hostess for storytelling have the initials S.K. ?

Indeed! How do you know her? I know her as the sister and aunt of the friends we went to the library with that morning.

It's a weird small world. I know her as Ms K*******, 5&6th grade Social Studies teacher at IACS (the charter school my kids go to).
