And more importantly, what can I do to make it look happier? It looks oddly contorted and I want it to take up less space; will it root easily if I take a cutting?

Oh, we have a bigger grater we use for cheese. This is the lesser grater.

The leaves and stem look very much like a Ludisia discolor jewel orchid, but perhaps not one in very good shape. This page makes it sound like it will root easily.

Ah, thank you! I remember now that it had a flower last year, and that's what it looked like.
