I'd never heard of rose moss -- I only knew it as portulaca. It was my favorite flower when I was about 9, and I'd forgotten why until I saw this patch of it the other day.
I learned it as rose moss (or moss rose) first when I found it growing as volunteer in my yard, and was trying to figure out what it was. Later on during that research, I learned the official name, that it was related to common purslane that also grew everywhere, and that it was edible (but the flowering stuff was always too pretty to eat).
