All I know is it's an ornamental cabbage. I've always wondered how edible these things would be. My guess is "moderately," since all the brassicas are close relatives (cabbage, broccoli, caulflower, kohlrabi, kale, Brussels sprouts, etc).
Looks like "brassica oleracea var. acephala" is the official name and "flowering (or ornamental) cabbage (or kale)" is the common one. I will look into acquiring some next year. :)
