I always thought it was bred that way, and recently, but Wikipedia says I'm wrong -- or at least wrong about the recently part. I guess I thought that because I only saw it for the first time a few years ago. But I'm glad I looked it up, because now I know I should put it into the curry later than the true cauliflower or it'll overcook.
Now that I think about it, this really should be called Mandelbroccoli. (Though that might be a little confusing to German speakers who wonder why it doesn't taste like almonds...)
