Whew! That's a lotta heat.

I didn't actually pay attention to what these are, but I'm guessing they have Scoville nature of some sort.

Drat, I was going to ask you what they were. I ended up with a small bag of assorted hot peppers and I've been using them in things, the usual "and one pepper of unknown hotness" to add interest as well as spice to your life. But these guys had an odd scent when sauteeing in addition and I was wondering what they were.

They look sorta like scotch bonnet, except I usually imagine those to be more bumpier.

Huh. The bag of peppers also included some small smooth spherical red jobs which someone identified to me as scotch bonnet. But perhaps this person didn't know what they were talking about... Maybe I need to spend some quality time on peppers-r-us.com :-)

My knowledge of pepper identification comes from grocery store cashier training circa 2001 so... grain of salt perhaps.

But I always think of Scotch bonnet as being around 1" long, 1/2-3/4" diameter, and definitionally wrinkly. So like miniature, wrinkly bell peppers.

So I think the ones in Martha's picture are actually habanero peppers.
