One of the joys of both living in one place is that we can buy stuff, put it in the fridge, and eat it before it goes bad.

We're getting seltzer delivered, in those old-fashioned siphon bottles, from Stella Brothers. My parents in Providence have been getting seltzer delivery all my life, and one of the things that made me want to live in Arlington is that they'll deliver here.

We also got our first Boston Organics delivery on Friday. This included three vegetables that I don't think I've ever had before. Kyle cooked the garlic scapes in an omelette yesterday morning. And dinner tonight was a three-course meal: corn on the cob, simply boiled with a little butter and salt; chard greens and shiitake mushrooms (both of which were new to me) sauteed with a little soy sauce; and zucchini and chard stalks with herbs from my own garden cooked in storebought tomato sauce and pasta. I was surprised by the buttery aftertaste of the shiitake mushrooms -- delicious. This was one of those rare occasions that a vegetarian dinner felt more than complete.

It's a service that delivers organice produce to your doorstep once a week (usually Fridays, it seems). You can choose a $25 or $35 box, and choose whether you want mostly fruit, mostly veggies, or all veggies -- and you can ask them to to give you specific things (I asked that anytime they had eggplants they should try and give me an avocado instead). Each week there's a sheet of information about some of the more unusual items, plus some recipes. Some of the stuff is local, most of it is seasonal. I expect in the fall I'll be learning how to make stuffed acorn squash and pumpkin pie.
