stealth copy place in Harvard Square

So, I stopped in to Staples in Harvard Square tonight to make a few copies. It turns out that their self-service machines don't take cardstock, and the lady behind the counter told me that it would be an hour's wait if I wanted her to make nine copies for me. I asked if there was anyone else nearby who might be able to do it, and she said, "Fedex, next to Verizon, I think they do copies." I thanked her and left.

Crossing Winthrop Square, I located Verizon on Mt Auburn St, but I didn't see a Fedex. I did, however, notice a sign in a basement window: Flash Print -- and the lights were still on. I discovered that the entrance to this print shop is right across the hall from Million Year Picnic, to which I've been many times.

I went in and had a pleasant conversation with the gruff fellow behind the desk. He made a test print, then did my copies on cardstock just the way I wanted them, and then refused to take my payment for them. He asked who'd sent me, and I told the story about the hour-long wait at Staples, and we both had a laugh.

I have personally visited the mysterious FedEx to send urgent last-minute employment documents, so I can confirm it exists, but sounds like you're all set anyway.

For what it's worth, I've used the Gnomon Copy shop across the Yard on Mass Ave near Bartley's for a while now and been very pleased with them. They do have cardstock in many varieties and do a very nice job printing on it.

I keep forgetting that Gnomon still exists: they fell off my radar when they moved out of the gorgeous Art Nouveau storefront (now occupied by a shoe repair shop).

The FedEx place is further along MT Auburn ST, but you have to cross the hideous tangle of streets. It's just before the Harvard Square USPS.

But we love the FlashPrint guys. They're nuts, but they're good people. Open til 7 most days, only closed on Sundays. They do my editing flyers for me every year. Half the price of FedEx before they give me a friends-and-family discount.

Oh, okay, I know where Fedex is: I used to go there when it was Kinkos. I don't think I'd describe that as "next to Verizon" unless there's another Verizon a block away from the one I saw.

I'll be going to FlashPrint again. :)
