This hollyhock grew unbidden (though not unwelcomed) in our herb garden this year. We're not sure where the seed came from. Until just a few days ago, we didn't know what it was -- it was seven feet tall and had these huge leaves, but it wasn't until the flowers opened that I recognized it.

So that's what those are! I've been seeing them bloom around here and wondered how to get some in my garden.

yes some "weeds" can be good, we've ended up with tomato "weeds" cropping up in the community garden.
