Yeah, neither had I! It's my mother-in-law's, and she says it's been flowering for a while now (weeks? months?) Maybe if I make mine happy enough it'll flower too.
I've no idea, and neither has Wikipedia. This might be helpful: http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10949 , though it seems to be a lot of guesswork and conjecture.
I asked her, and she had no idea. I can tell you that she keeps it on an enclosed porch that gets quite cold in the winter and quite hot in the summer, and it gets a lot of sun. Wikipedia says that the red tinge is probably from the plentiful sun, but it doesn't say what the right conditions are for producing flowers.
I have a Christmas cactus which seems pretty happy (it's tripled in size in the year I've had it), but hasn't flowered. Maybe it needs another year of rest.

Maybe if I fertilize it?
