I was here on Thanksgiving:
a government building with apartment buildings in the background

PLUNDERDOME

Nope.

(And how is it that I've never heard of the term "Plunderdome"?)

Is that William Penn on that building in Philly?

That was my guess

I was hoping I could zoom in for a better look at the figure. The only counter-point is that I think Penn is still above the level of most of the buildings around it, which this does not seem to be.

Not a bad guess—I got a Philadelphia vibe from it as well— except that (a) the statue of Penn isn't gilded (see Google Images (http://www.google.com/images?q=philadelphia%20city%20hall&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1920&bih=865)); (b) it's true that the buildings that are taller than Penn are behind him, in what has to be the world's most pathetic way of breaking tradition; and (c) no one would proudly admit to being in Philadelphia.

You didn't even tell me you were coming! Granted, I was away.

(right?)

(translation: that's a picture of Brooklyn's Borough Hall, taken from what I'd estimate to be about the 20th-ish floor of the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott?)

Wow, very well done. 9th floor, I think.

19th, I mean.

We reserved a room on the 19th and a room on the 20th, and we let Geneal have the higher one because he was worried about the reports about bedbugs in the DA's office, which is apparently below the hotel.

Great picture. Though I admit that strangely, what tripped it for me was not either building, but Court Street just beyond them. Silly to me to think this from 19 floors up, but it just looked familiar. (I don't think knowing where your grandparents[?] live hurt either.)

Yes, it's funny how architectural details (like maybe those arches in the white building on the corner) stick in your mind without your even realizing it, when you see them frequently.

Yes, my grandparents live walking-distance from there. The family has grown so that we don't all fit -- or maybe it's that the grandchildren are no longer willing to sleep on the living room floor. :)
