Thanks! Yes, I'm taking a class at MIT. It's sort of an independent study, because I wanted to make teeny-tiny bowls. I should've included a quarter in the photo: these are about 1 to 2 inches across.

Are those thrown on a wheel? Didn't know you could do things that small ona wheel.

Can people with no MIT affiliation take pottery classes? Or does majordomo's affiliation let you take classes?

Is there some particular purpose you have in mind for tiny bowls, or is it just that you like them?

Nice! My youth was spent surrounded by clay and kilns and paint, so I was appreciative of the technique as much as the bowls themselves :) -H...

They are thrown on a wheel. I've recently started pulling two or three bowls off the top of one lump of clay, which has the added benefit of being better for my back (don't have to lean over as far).

I believe the classes are only for MIT affiliates. I have a "Staff Spouse" card.

In theory I like to use these as prep bowls while cooking. In practice, they're really too small even for that. I use one for kosher salt, but I now officially have more than I can use. Their saving grace is that they don't take up much room in the cupboard. :)

Interesting - I was once told by them that I was not allowed to take classes there even though my spouse was an alum. ... I miss clay so much!!!! I should try to find a way to get back to it...

It's possible that classes are open to staff spouses but not to alum spouses. Do you have a card (or can you get one) from the card office?
