Like, if I put an earring back on a flip-flop and dangle it from my ear, or if I buckle the strap of my wedgie under my chin and wear it as a hat - are they still footwear?

It's just that the majority of the people I've asked have initially (and often persistently) said that skis are not footwear.

I do believe that skis detach, and you can't really use skis without a pair of ski boots.
