A Day in the Life: Sunday May 10th
May. 13th, 2015 03:14 pmI posted another photoessay in the Day in the Life community, but I'll post it here too:

The Bear comes into our room to wake me for morning milk.

She’s let us sleep uncharacteristically late.

It’s gonna be a steamer (that’s like a scorcher but humid). I’m a wimp when it comes to summer weather.

K goes back to sleep. I wasn’t sleeping anyway, so I’m happy to get up with the Bear.

She serves me pretend breakfast.

I have an entirely unrealistic amount I’m hoping to get done today.

First I post the blender on the town list.

Then I choose my favorites from yesterday’s photoshoot with my cousin’s newborn.

The Bear wants to see the pictures. She knows how to use the arrow keys to scroll through them, so it’s a somewhat repetitive self-guided tour.

We both have cream cheese on toast.

I read the Lands’ End catalog.

K joins us and the Bear demands yogurt and blueberries for her second breakfast.

The blender has been claimed!

I got about a dozen requests, so I had to reply to them all.

K sunblocks the Bear.

I sunblock myself (and, not pictured, also K).

The Bear picks out her clothes. On mornings when she’s slow getting dressed, all I have to do is threaten to choose for her and she springs into action.

Hydration for our foray into the back garden.

Oops, sidetracked by the Friends and Relations photo book.

I head out and deal with compost.

C from next-door decides she would rather help in our garden than her own.

The bell peppers are planted. These are the Bear’s babies: she planted the seeds in March and has been diligently watering them every day.

Not pictured: K prepared the tomato beds. I planted the tomatoes, some of which are in bad shape because we overwatered them -- but it was the same story last year and they did fantastically, so who knows? Anyway, by now it’s in the mid-80s and I don’t know if you can tell but I’m wiped out.

A refreshing snack. The Bear soon co-opts the seaweed chips.

K has a different sort of refreshment.

C is still here -- she entertained the Bear the whole time that K and I were tucking the tomatoes into their beds. The girls snack on goldfish. C says something about naming a kid “I Can’t Tell You,” so I pull up an old classic on YouTube.

I tackle the dishes.

(I didn’t actually wash the seedling planters. I put them away dirty because I figure they just get more soil in them next March.)

I sort a load of laundry, K puts it in the basement (I’m still too wiped to go up and down the stairs).

We send C home and it’s shower time for everyone.

All clean!

Since we just ate snack, lunch is also a snack: veggies and hummus.

K puts the Bear down for her nap and I go into maker mode.

In honor of this summery day, I’m going to make a beach bag.

I listen to NPR -- the show is Radio Open Source.

I’ve already heard the TED Radio Hour this week, so I switch to podcasts.

I though K was napping but he’s cleaning.

At 3:37 the Bear is up. She is unperturbed by the fact that this is too short a nap.

She wants to play in the sewing room.

Not pictured: the Bear decorates a Mothers’ Day card for Grandma. Pictured: washing the marker off our hands.

I change into a skirt for going out.

On our way out...

The Bear finds an ant!

She asks me to carry her. (She also requested that I wear my hair in ponytails like hers.)

We are sooo lucky to live walking distance from this restaurant, Za, which has fantastic pizza and salads and welcomes small children with open arms (or at least, high chairs and crayons).

Our friends M and N walk in a minute after we sit down, so with visit with them until our food comes.

We all share the beet/apple/hazelnut/chevre salad and the avocado/tomato/black-bean salad. The Bear picks the jalapeño bits out of the latter and feeds them to Daddy.

The pizza arrives -- it has three different kinds of onions, ground beef, mushrooms, and pickled hot peppers. Yum.

After dinner, the Bear wants to clean the table.

Stopping on the way home for gymnastics.

We run into [Bad username or site: ”mizarchivist” @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: ”asciikitty” @ livejournal.com] and D. Luckily not literally!

When we get home, we call Grandma and Grandpa on the computer.

The Bear shows off for them.

Then she has bedtime milk.

K does the remainder of the bedtime routine and I head out into the world, taking the recycling with me.

Believe it or not, this is light traffic.

In my haste to leave the house I managed to forget my shopping list. At my first stop, I remember everything except pacifiers.

My second stop.

No list + unaccustomed freedom = lots of impulse buys.

I usually go here last to pick up whatever I couldn’t find at TJ’s.

About this time K escapes from bedtime and sends me a photo of the list.

Soon I’m headed home.

Time check and more NPR.

K helps unpack groceries. He is nonjudgmental (or pretends to be) about my impulse buys.

I try to concentrate on my reading while I sip a glass of milk, but to no avail.

So I upload a batch of photos instead.

I post a photo on LJ.

Time check: past bedtime.

Not too bad for a day’s work.

Brush teeth.

Leave this folding for tomorrow.

Charge my phone.

Read and floss, then lights out. Good night DitL!
