I'm not sure what the symbolism would be, I just liked the hinting-at-fractal nature of the thing.

Agreed on the pretty hinting-at-fractal nature. And it's also very self-contained; the inside's semi-fractal, and the outside is just there.

For symbolism, I was just thinking of the analogies people make between flowers and feminine parts. But that's just a distracting background thought.
