Ten things I've done that I don't think anybody on my friendslist has...

1) Had something I wrote criticized by Kurt Vonegut.
2) Built an Edwardian evening gown.
3) Worked for a circus (hoopdiver is the exception to this one).
4) Biked from Inman Square in Somerville to the far corner of Lexington (10 miles uphill).
5) I went up to a street performer at Covent Garden after his show and asked to borrow his flaming torches (which were still flaming). He let me, and I juggled them, and I handed them back to him.
6) Composed puzzles for a puzzle event at my college and ran the event by myself.
7) Stage-managed a show in which one of the performers had a seizure on stage.
8) I grew up in a household that didn't have a TV (again, hoopdiver doesn't count).
9) Wore my hair in braids every day for 13 months.
10) Was chased by Canada geese at Wheaton College.

If anybody matches one of these, I shall think of something else I've done that you haven't. :P

okay, I give up: how do you make those little lightbulb thingies that happen in other people's journals when they talk about other lj users?

Answer here (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75); the tag format is ( lj user="username" ) (replace the "(" with "<").

Was the biking out the Minuteman Trail?

Interesting list... although when I lived in Davis Sq, [livejournal.com profile] marknic and I used to bike from Davis to the end of the Minuteman Bike trail and back... which I think is in Belmont. approx 22mile). My goal is to try and match that plus more miles this summer. I really want to take a bike tour in the Loire Valley in France next summer. :-)(hopefully)

Actually I meant to say Bedford... not Belmont :-)

I think I can reasonably claim to have worked for a circus...

[livejournal.com profile] bubblebabble also grew up without a television.

I'm corrupting him slowly.

Oh, and come to think of it, I've also juggled flaming torches as a street performer myself. But I suppose your story is sufficiently different from that.

I've worked for 2 different circuses. :)

- A very small travelling show run by one of the parents in my high school
- Cirque Du Soleil, here and in DC.

I've worn my hair in at least one braid every day since about 7th grade (7th to 10th grade it was always in 2 braids).

Thanks, I knew it was something like that but I couldn't find it anywhere in the FAQ.

I would have picked up the bike path in Davis (or maybe at Mass Ave) and taken that to Lex. center, at which point I transfer back to Mass Ave for the last mile of the journey (that last mile is the only part with a steep hill, because the bike path is on an old railroad grade).

Fine. :P I've made a 70's-style jumpsuit for myself, and actually wore it.

Right, I should've known I had nothing on the circus folks in my friendslist.

Umm, lessee... I knitted clothing for my stuffed animals when I was little.

Okay. I'm having trouble thinking of something really unique that I've done. I might have to resort to costumey (i.e. career) details.. oh, okay, I've thought of something.

I had dinner with Dr Ruth. I was young enough that I didn't understand who she was; she was in town for a conference and my parents invited her over.

I had no idea! You'll have to regale me with circus stories at some point. What did you do for Cirque?

I tried to teach the then-mayor of Providence, Buddy Cianci, to juggle. He quickly tired of picking the beanbags up off the sidewalk. He is, by the way, famous for being reelected after serving a prison sentence, and being convicted again after his second term as mayor.

I do all right on the bike path, but when I go visit my friends in Lexington, I have to get off the bike path and go up a steep part of Mass Ave, which is the real reason the trip is exhausting.

Nothing glamorous...

Oh. *blush* I guess I didn't know you were reading mine.

Thanks for the link. Sounds like the same work that [livejournal.com profile] hoopdiver did for them in Hartford. Not too glamorous, but I wouldn't mind being able to watch circus acts while working.

Yep, I wore my hair in two braids every day for three years. 6th through 9th grade. Then one braid, 10th through 12th.

I've definitely worn 70's style jumpsuits, but I haven't made any.

One of us is remembering wrong, then. I wore my hair in braids every day because I wanted to be like you. I was disappointed and triumphant (if that combination is possible) when you admitted (at least, this is how I remember it) that you took an occasional break from wearing braids every day. I decided that if I wore braids every single day without fail for a year, then I was ahead of you and could quit. How odd I was.

You must've been there. I've no idea how old we were: maybe 5 and 7 ? Young enough that you wouldn't remember it.

otoh, I could have completely dreamed this up. Want to ask M&D?
