But I remember when you got that car, and I've only known you seven years(!)... oh, maybe you had the license plate from an earlier car? Or maybe I'm out of the loop and cars get inspected more than once a year.

In Massachusetts, cars get stickers for their license plate to prove that they've paid their registration fees. Depending upon the type of plate it's either annually, or every other year.

Inspection stickers go on the passenger side of the windshield, and the old sticker gets scraped off by the tester before the new one gets added.

Um, wait a minute here. Are those stickers issued monthly? That's almost 70 stickers, on a Taurus so it can't be more than 25 years old.
