all in the timing

We had no trick-or-treaters until after 6:30. We made ourselves a nice dinner, uninterrupted, and then -- exactly as we sat down, before we had a chance to take our first bites -- the doorbell rang. So far, we've had a tiny pumpkin, a zombie princess, a karate kid, and two cheap iParty costumes. We're gonna have a lot of Smarties and Nerds at the end of the evening...

Similarly, we've had three groups come by. One was a pair of little girls, one was a whole squad of kindergarteners (six of 'em, I think), and one group of tweenage boys who grabbed gluttonous handfuls from our very full candy bucket.

...and how would that be any different from a normal night? (sorry, you set it up so perfectly...)

I actually typed something like that, but deleted it to give you a chance to make the joke. So thanks. :)

We had our usual zero. I bought DOVE CHOCOLATES. If there's leftovers, I want 'em to be better than smarties and nerds. Apparently I get them all. Ken said, "How long would we have to give out ten dollar bills before people figured out they should come to our house?" Years, I imagine.

We drove to another neighborhood to trick-or-treat, since the houses on our street are so far apart and half the time the people are like "oh, is it halloween? uh, joe, do we have anything? no? I'm sorry..." We've given up on the home front. The kids got an enormous haul. There were many well-decorated houses. It was fun.

We haven't had a trick or treater here in at least 10 years. The city has a kids' costume parade every Halloween afternoon after school, and the kids hit every storefront in town right after it's over. My boss at the real estate office used to buy close to $100 in candy every year.
