Oh no, LJ has introduced a "like" feature. Now no one will comment in words anymore! :-\
(Just kidding. I hope.)

I noticed that. I don't see how it is necessary, but what do I know?

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2016-11-02 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
They're trying to compete with FB. Because the world has a sick sense of humor sometimes, LJ is already superior to FB (always has been), but look where it's gotten them! :(

There's "necessary" and then there's "popular". I admit to instinctively groping for the "Like" button sometimes when I have little more to add in comments. But I don't want to get any lazier about commenting. :-}

They did? Huh. I don't see it in my feed. I bet it's in the app version.

There will be comments

I've seen the "LIke" icon elsewhere but not on your post here.

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2016-11-03 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
That's weird. I was able to "like" this post.

[personal profile] ron_newman 2016-11-03 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I didn't realize where the Like button was! (It's the heart in the little row of icons above your post)

[identity profile] chanaleh.livejournal.com 2016-11-03 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure that's right. The old "heart" icon in the little row of icons was the symbol they used for "Add to memories".

I was still seeing that... but then I noticed the "Show in new style" button at the right end of the page header bar. And when I clicked that, suddenly the old heart icon has been replaced with a bookmark icon (sensible), and there's another heart icon with a counter, *below* the text of the post.

(But it says you've Liked it, so apparently you figured it out. :-)

"Liked" ironically. ;-)

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2016-11-03 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Ha! I did the same. I tried to like it several times but it didn't let me.

If you use the App you don't see the like button, but let me tell you I like your post! 😛👍❤

I use the web site, not the app, but I don't see any like buttons either.

Still don't see the like feature from the app. How odd! I do admit sometimes I want to convey I read a post but don't have a complete thought to add in comments.

OK, I think I've figured it out. According to FAQ #425, the "like" button is only available if you are using the "new style." For users who haven't switched, you can switch via a link that should appear in the topbar that says "Switch to new version." HOWEVER, if you switched, and then decided to switch back to the old one (this was an option for a while; dunno if it still is), you won't see that link! In order to get myself switched over, I went to the Journal Style page and changed my theme to one of the approved ones. Then I saw the link to change to the new feed version, clicked that, and now I see hearts on all entries, including my own.
