The long stamen make me think of a spider lily (Lycoris radiata) but it doesn't quite match up. Pretty, though!

A crabapple? -- it has a rosy look to the wood.

My aunt, who does serious plant identification and conservation work in MA says "...probably Red Maple - possibly Norway Maple" and wants to know if it was growing wild or planted.

It's a street tree and there are others like it nearby, so planted. And it's new, hasn't been there more than five years I'd say. I didn't think maples were still being planted as street trees, but yes, according to a google image search it looks like it's a red maple. Thanks!
