Sunday in the Park with Martha

The weather promises to be beautiful this Sunday, so the picnic is on,
this time for real!
Please note a slight CHANGE OF LOCATION from past years (our usual
spot is a construction site at the moment). We'll be just across Mem
Drive in JFK Park -- here's a map with the new location marked.

We'll be there from noon-ish 'til dinnertime. Bring food and drink,
friends and family, picnic blankets, games and puzzles, musical
instruments, frisbees and juggling equipment... but also feel free to
join us if you're not bringing anything at all!

Please note that Mem Drive is closed to motor vehicles on Sundays in
the summer. I recommend one of these transportation options:
-- Red Line to Harvard Square and walk down JFK St to the river -- or
you can take the 66 or 86 bus.
-- Park in a garage in Harvard Sq or nearby, and walk down JFK to the river.
-- Bike, skate, kayak, or some other non-motorized vehicle.

If you're interested in some dancing that evening, there's a
traditional square dance happening from 7 to 10pm at Spontaneous
Celebrations, 45 Danforth street in Jamaica Plain, a short walk from
the Orange Line. The caller is Will Mentor -- I've had the pleasure
of dancing to his calling several times and he's great.

By traditional square dancing do you mean the kind that shows up at contra dances, or what the boomers among us did in the 4th grade, or mwsd basic calls only, or what?

It's definitely not MWSD, more like what you get at contras but even more accessible to people who just walk in off the street. But still fun!

It's been pointed out to me that there is also a BIDA contra at the Porter Square Masonic Hall that night.

I'm planning to go to the Roaring Jelly contra dance tonight, and caller Susan Elberger often includes some squares of that sort. I'll make do with that, especially as driving to JP two nights in a row would be nuts. I'm considering doing to the GFP line dance/two step dance tomorrow, inspired by this video (near the end)

Can you remind me of the time for your picnic?

All afternoon and possibly into the evening.
