The pattern doesn't seem to be irregular enough to be a cryptogram. Nothing common enough to be an E. Well, maybe the orange T looking thing. But nothing else stands out as second most common.

Or am I completely barking up the wrong tree?

Yeah, must be some other tree. I counted 42 glyphs, not including the moon (which I hadn't noticed til I started counting.)
