It's increasing looking like rain for this Sunday afternoon, so I've decided to postpone the picnic 'til Sunday June 17th, two weeks later.

Please also note that there the location will be just across Memorial Drive from where it's been in past years. Here's a map with the new location marked: <http://tinyurl.com/bu5mj9e>

Enjoy the rain (it's good for your garden!) and I hope to see you in a few weeks.

The weather prediction for Sunday is iffy. I don't want to wait til the last moment to decide whether to postpone my picnic, but the chance of rain for Sunday has increased over the course of today. We've had rain at the picnic before, and it was an Adventure, and I wouldn't mind sitting out in another ten-minute rain, but I wouldn't want to be out in it for an hour, nor would I ask you to.

Mark your calendars -- it's the 9th annual picnic by the Charles River!

June 3rd from noon-ish til dinnertime, in the grassy area between Memorial Drive and the river, by JFK Street,

Bring food and drink, friends and family, picnic blankets, games and puzzles, musical instruments, frisbees and juggling equipment... but
also feel free to join us if you're not bringing anything at all!

Please note that Mem Drive is closed to motor vehicles on Sundays in the summer.
I recommend one of these transportation options:
- Red Line to Harvard Square and walk down JFK St to the river -- or you can take the 66 or 86 bus.
- Park in a garage in Harvard Sq or nearby, and walk down JFK to the river.
- Bike, skate, kayak, or some other non-motorized vehicle.

The raindate of Sunday in the Park is June 17th.

I hoped the weather gods would change their minds, but it's going to be too rainy this weekend for a picnic. We'll try for next weekend, Sunday the 19th.

My annual picnic, which some of you may remember was rained out *twice* in June, is ON for this Sunday, August 29th. As far as I can tell from five days out, the weather for this weekend looks sunny and quite warm. Except for the date, the details are the same as in my original post.

We get the keys to the new apartment in thirteen days and six hours. I can't wait, I'm ready to pack up and move Now.

I can move almost all of my stuff by myself using a car during the day. I'm planning to rent a van for my mattress & futon frame, and the heavy bookshelf if I decide to move it. Unless someone has a better offer -- I mean, suggestion. I could use the help of a burly man or two for moving the mattress.

Other things on the horizon:

Picnic in [some] park on Sunday June 26th. Possibilities include: the spot where we were last year, on Mem Drive by JFK St; Powderhouse park; the ballfields near our new apartment.
Pros and cons:
The Mem Drive spot would be nice for the sake of consistency and tradition, but it's a bitch to find parking along there.
Powderhouse is a pleasant park area, nothing wrong with it that I can think of.
The ballfield, though wonderfully close to home, might already be scheduled for a ballgame, and I'm not sure how to find out.

Also: I will again have a table in ArtBeat on July 16th in Davis Sq. I'll have a lot of the same stuff as last year, but also some new ideas and colors. Please stop by, and tell lots of people about it.

Right now it says rain for Sunday. My picnic is supposed to be this Sunday. If it gets rained out this time, I'll have to postpone til August. So, will everyone please join me in an appeal to whatever gods suit your fancy, and pray for pleasant weather for Sunday June 20th? And then come enjoy the beautiful, cool, clear, sunny afternoon along the river with me.

After checking the weather predictions obsessively yesterday, I finally decided that today's picnic would be cancelled due to outdoor coldness, grayness, and soggy ground.

Now that it's warmer and the sun has come out, my picnic remains cancelled.

It will, however, happen at the same hour at the same site, on Sunday June 20th. Yes, it's Fathers' Day, but it's also a perfect time for a Solstice party. So bring poetry to read aloud, and musical instruments to play.

Sunday, May 23rd: a picnic on the Charles River, along Mem Drive near JFK St. The general idea is for everyone I know to have a chance to meet everyone else I know. Starting around 2 or 3 pm, bring your friends and family, bring food and drinks, bring kites and frisbees, bring umbrellas and picnic blankets.

If you want to meet my mother, plan on staying late: she is teaching circus school in the afternoon and won't arrive from Providence until about 5:30.

I do apologize for the difficulty of parking -- there is a garage up closer to Harvard Sq. Walk, or ride a bike, perhaps?
In case of precipitation, I will schedule a different Sunday afternoon in June. But I hope that's not necessary.
